Picasso’s Sketchbook (1955-1956): Plate no. 23

Each lithograph from this series was rendered with great accuracy to interpret the sketches in Picasso’s spiral notebook from November 1, 1955 to January 14, 1956. Skilled printmakers collaborated with Picasso, using the most modern processes of lithography at the time. The color saturation in these works represents a remarkable achievement in printmaking, each color maintained its own integrity. From cover to the last sketch in the notebook, the theme centered on Picasso’s own studio, in his mansion, Le Californie, in Cannes, France.
