Description
This folio contains 42 lavish color illustrations by Marc Chagall for Longus’ immortal love story. These images were printed in offset lithography with the express permission of Chagall after’ the 1st edition printing of original lithographs in 1961. Daphnis and Chloe is the only known work of the 2nd century AD Greek novelist and romancer Longus. Daphnis and Chloe is the story of a boy (Daphnis) and a girl (Chloe), each of whom is raised by caring people who discover them in the pasture as babes. Daphnis and Chloe grow up together, herding the flocks for their foster parents. They fall in love but, being naive, do not understand what is happening to them. Braziller.
