Description
This pochoir is based on drawing by the artist in 1921. Picasso’s colossal Romanesque figures began to appear in the early 1920s. They were a departure from Cubism and with them he embarked upon his classical period. This soft red chalk-like-pochoir stands as a mark of his printmaking genius. Few artists throughout history could create something so unique, and yet so beautiful. The face used for the work is unidentified, yet appeared many times throughout the series, becoming one of his most iconic images. With the help of Picasso, Jacomet made the pochoir process famous. Picasso and Jacomet experimented with the process using light sensitive zinc plates coated with gelatin to create his composition. Stencils were cut from thin zinc and inks were later pushed through them onto the print using round brushes. Publisher: Les editions du Livre / Printer: La Photolitho /l. Delaporte.
