Description
“Cow Going Abstract (Triptych)” by Roy Lichtenstein is a witty lithographic work originally done in 1974 that playfully explores the evolution of abstraction. Lichtenstein revisited the theme with a second edition with slightly bolder color in 1982, from which this is an Artist’s Proof (A.P.). Presented in three panels, the piece begins with a recognizable cartoon-style cow, then shifts through stages of stylization until it becomes a completely abstract composition. With bold lines, vibrant color blocks, and Lichtenstein’s signature pop art flair, the triptych humorously comments on modern art’s movement from representation to abstraction. Reference: Corlett App. 9.
